As a fan of the Marvel Studios original Black Panther Movie, Pear Nova Founder and CEO Rachel James was inspired to create a nail collection that embodies the resilience, vibrancy and innovation of Wakandan culture. That’s how she created Layovers – the sequel to Pear Nova’s award-winning, luxurious, vegan and non-toxic (10-free) nail polishes.
James’ passion for nail art and culture has shaped Pear Nova and Pear Nova Studio, the Chicago-based nail salon, beauty lounge and safe space that opened in 2019 to bridge the gap between beauty and community. Pear Nova’s collaboration with Marvel continues to elevate culture with original designs from minority artists and Chicago-based creatives.
“As a young mom became a Marvel fanatic, like so many other people, I fell in love with all elements of Black Panther‘ shares James. “From Wakanda’s rich culture to women’s leadership, I have been completely inspired by her world and everything in it. In creating our first layover collection, I wanted to pay tribute to the story that inspired so many and to express my admiration for Black Panther and Wakanda. I also wanted to create a product that would make my sons proud and I think with this collection we have achieved all that and more.”
