formula overview
$20.00/0.13oz. – $153.85 per ounce
The formula is said to be an “air-whipped lip cream” with “rich, melted-in color” paired with “nourishing moisture.” It’s a liquid lipstick with a more velvety consistency and a satin to matte finish – some shades seemed to matte very quickly, while others were a bit denser and creamier.
It’s loaded with silicones that make it glide and glide, but not in the way a liquid lipstick might typically feel; it feels lighter and is slightly powdery. If you’re familiar with silicone-based primers, it has a similar glide. The formula felt “air whipped” as it was lighter and mousse-like and had softer edges as it was applied with most shades.
Most of the shades were opaque in a single coat and I had no trouble applying the product through the applicator. It seemed like there was enough product for full coverage, but if you wanted more of a blotchy, diffused, matte look (which is often used for this type of mousse-like formula), it felt very good without the product to have to wipe.
The majority of the shades applied evenly, didn’t rip or emphasize my lip lines, and lasted between four and eight hours (some left a stain). They were neither moisturizing nor drying for me over time. They had a faint, floral, beachy scent but didn’t seem to have any flavor like the lip balm formula did.

Rare Beauty Confident Lip Souffle Matter Cream Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.13 oz) is a light to medium pink with subtle cooler undertones and a soft matte finish. It seemed purer and a little thinner than most of the shades in the formula.
