No matter how easy it used to be in the past, there really is nothing better than a pumpkin spice latte on the first crispy day of fall. Now the pumpkin spice hair color is here to give you the same feeling in hair color form.
Red hair color has had a big moment in all iterations over the past few years. The trend started in 2019 with Zendaya’s dark auburn, then faded to a lighter peach for most of quarantine. After the pandemic, copper coins started popping up with the likes of Sydney Sweeney and Jennie Kim. Now it seems reds are still going strong for fall after Khloe Kardashian introduced the perfect summer-to-fall transition shade with Pumpkin Spice Latte Bronde.

“This winter is all about burnt copper and sweeping reds,” confirms Mark DeBolt, Co-Owner and Master Colorist at the Mark Ryan Salon in New York. “Think deep, earthy reds with natural finishes.” DeBolt adds that the color can be particularly striking on people with green or hazel eyes.

If a bolder shade of red feels a little too intimidating, fear not. Karissa Schaudt, colorist at Maxine Salon in Chicago, says the pumpkin spice trend is embracing all shades of red. “The Pumpkin Spice hair color looks as good as it tastes,” she says. “The color is full of rich tones including ginger, cinnamon and chestnut. Any of these shades can be interpreted as pumpkin spice or blended to a very rich tone.”

L’Oréal Profesionnel Global Ambassador Min Kim agrees, adding that there are many shades under the pumpkin spice umbrella. “This look is inspired by fall tones and fall themes—butter, honey, shadows, warm light, caramel, copper, and pumpkin tones and shades,” she says. “These shades complement not only the season, but also fashion and makeup trends, not to mention Pumpkin Spice Lattes.”
Kim recommends taking photos to your colorist to find the color you want. “The Kardashian color is a great reference to show your stylist the application and technique you are looking for. It’s also a great starting point for discussing how to customize it to suit your hair length, texture and color history,” she says. “This service can be performed with an open air balayage technique as well as enclosed with foils. A highlight and shadow approach is likely applied to create overall depth, dimension, tone and shine.”
#4 Khloe Kardashian Honey like hair color
Shades like peach, strawberry blonde, and ginger are also a pretty way to approach the trend. They still add the spice that makes this look fall-ready—plus, the tiniest hint of red helps warm up your complexion when winter arrives. Ask your colorist to start with a peachy sheen, and opt for a demi-permanent color once you know you’re into it. Kristin Ess’ Signature Gloss in Copper Penny and Lime Crime’s Unicorn Hair Tint in Sushi are easy ways to try the trend at home with little commitment.
To maintain your color, Kim suggests returning to the salon every three months and using L’Oreal Professionnel Metal Detox for maintenance. “This will treat and maintain hair color and hair quality over time and between appointments,” she says.
