The formula is said to have “transparent, buildable color” that’s moisturizing while also being long-lasting with “six hours” of shine and “eight hours” of color.

These primarily have an unexpectedly long wearing requirement. Eight hours of wear is a feat for any lipstick, let alone one that’s more sheer, brighter, and hydrating. It’s probably no shock that they haven’t worn anywhere near eight hours. The wear ranged from three to four hours, which was consistent with other, more luminous formulas with similar coverage, and slightly longer than the average Luster lipstick in the past (although it’s more in line with recently released Lusters).

The updated version of the Luster finish is smoother, creamier and has more even coverage. It’s still a lighter, thinner consistency compared to MAC’s other lipsticks and most other lipstick formulas on the market. The colors brought back in the new formula were pretty consistent with the previous versions.

Most shades, applied evenly, didn’t seem to capture or accentuate texture imperfections on my lips and didn’t tend to settle into my lip lines. That being said, the current range is heavier in mid-tones, and it’s often very light shades that can account for both.

Opacity ranged from semi-transparent to medium, and most shades were buildable to semi-opaque, although they tended to wear down to medium opacity within an hour of wear. I found that once some of the shine faded, e.g. For example, if you drank water from a glass or dabbed lightly, the remaining color more closely matched the original product layer.

They smelled of vanilla but had no discernible taste.
