formula overview
$26.00/0.17oz. – $152.94 per ounce
The formula is said to be long-lasting (“10 hours”) with “instant” hydration, while “[blurring] lines & [smoothing] Lips” that won’t settle, wrinkle, flake, or feel dry. Depending on the brand, you apply the “hourglass-shaped applicator”.
The texture has a velvetier, thicker feel that spreads well and feels velvety with a more silicone-like glide (if you’ve tried a silicone-based primer, the feel on lips was similar but creamier). The applicator worked well to apply and distribute the product evenly, but it amassed more product than my lips needed in a single swipe of product, to the point where I felt the product was detrimental to application too much was applied.
I’ve had better luck applying the product to my upper lip (especially around Cupid’s bow as the applicator was better suited to that area) and then pressing my lips together and/or using a fingertip to spread the product and sweeping it onto the rest of mine lips. This ensured there wasn’t too much product on my lips; too much resulted in the product pilling a little and being uneven, especially in the inner area of my month, prone to teething and sometimes snagging on lip texture/imperfections. For reference, all sample photos are applied with the included applicator only.
They were pigmented, with most shades being almost opaque to opaque, but some falling slightly below. For a more diffused look, apply the color with your fingertips or just on the center of the lips and then use a brush or your fingertips to blow out the color. The colors flowed fairly evenly, and I found that most of the time where it didn’t it was a problem with over-application of the product (despite only using one puff of the product!) and the formula was more forgiving when she was applied with less product (but that was still enough to almost completely cover my lips!).
They mattify over time – as the color wears off – and are more resistant to transfer at that point, but the formula itself is more flexible, although I could definitely feel it, and has a silkier finish for the first few hours of wear. I’d recommend dabbing gently on the back of your hand (this way you’re less likely to get bits of tissue on your lips) for a quicker softening and mattifying if desired.
The lighter shades didn’t wear out as evenly and had more noticeable wear down the center of my lips, while the more mid-tone and deeper shades lasted longer and more evenly as they tended to stain a bit. Wear ranged from five to eight hours, but the formula didn’t provide “instant” hydration for me, and after wearing many shades in a row, my lips were mildly dehydrated.
