Looking back on 2022 and my goals for 2023

TBH I’m always a little hesitant to write this type of post after calling 2020 the “Year of the Journey” but here we go….

Hello friends! Happy Monday and HAPPY NEW YEAR! *throws confetti in the air* I’m back and feeling refreshed after spending some time with the family. We’ve been hanging out with friends, watched movies, enjoyed some girl time (pedicures, boba teas, shopping, baking) and are back this week fully underway. I hope you had a wonderful blurry week between Christmas and New Years and I hope you had a safe and happy New Years celebration.

(New Year’s Eve at the Desert Museum)

For today’s post, I thought it would be a good time to look back on the year, assess how I did on my goals, and set some goals for 2023.

When it comes to resolutions, I tend to have mixed feelings. I’m the type of person who often thinks, “If you want to change something, change it now instead of waiting for the print of an upcoming date or holiday,” but at the same time, there’s something exciting and motivating about a bright, shiny, New Year.

I make changes and set goals throughout the year, but during this time I usually set big business and financial goals, health and personal goals, and brainstorm a theme for the year: a mantra to remember can when things feel challenging or tough. My mantra for this year is “gratitude”. A daily gratitude practice has had a huge impact on my mood and mindset.

Here’s a little recap of what happened in 2022.

Looking back on 2022 and my goals for 2023

I am so grateful that we were able to travel more this year! We visited some of our favorite places like Mt. Lemmon, Great Wolf Lodge (a few times), San Diego, Disneyland, San Diego again and Vegas, and also traveled to some new places like exploring Waikiki as a family. Hawaii ended up being my highlight of the year and the girls agree; They’re already asking to go back.

What to do and where to stay in Waikiki

The pilot took command of another squadron here. Even though his workload has been very heavy, I’m so proud of him and the kind of leader he is. We’ve had a lot more squadron events and military fun over the past year.

Professionally, I launched Total Body Reset with Mia, continued to create Fit Team content for my amazing members, completed my Integrative Health Practitioner certification, started coaching more 1:1 clients (virtual and in person) and it was my year with the highest affiliate income dating. I only work with a very small number of companies and I love promoting their amazing products.

I’ve done formal business coaching with Dan and Nicole Culver this year, been with a JillFit mastermind (Jill was my coach all year last year!) and look forward to working with some other friends in this space.

Beauty counter was one area that experienced a small blip in 2022. I didn’t have as much time as usual and one of my goals is to continue growing my beauty counter business. It’s an amazing company doing great things and I’m lucky to have some friends on my Beautycounter team too!

It’s been a good year health wise (knock on wood) and I feel like I’ve made my move with some of the things I’ve been working on. I have reduced my alcohol consumption drastically – you can read more about my journey here! — and went for walks with Maisey every day. It has done wonders for my mental health and I don’t have to remember to take 10,000 steps every day. It happens pretty easily with a workout + a daily walk with Mazer.

I still do my usual Fit Team workouts, teach barre and take classes like Hot Yoga, F45, Barre, Sculpt Society and hop on the peloton from time to time. I have consistently meditated, journaled on my PEMF-Go mat and slept soundly at night.

Personally, I remain grateful for our friends and family here in Tucson. We have our tribe of parent friends, the kids have their amazing best friends, and I attended a life-changing Bible study last summer. I grew up Catholic but never studied the Bible in that capacity and am so blessed to have a group of insightful, wise, encouraging and kind ladies in my corner.

This is also the year that I really feel like I’ve found some balance and some breathing room with our routine. I started taking 1-2 days off each week and started booking small open blocks or fun things to look forward to like a hike with a friend or a date with the pilot.

It can feel like you’re caught up in an endless pile of work, kids fights, and chores, especially when you’re a single parent for days, weeks, or months, and doing so has increased my happiness and productivity. Our babysitter came over the weekend, just for three hours, and it was a lifesaver to move forward with the content and backend blog work for the week ahead.

Some of my goals for 2023:

Keep posting content here, on Instagram and TikTok

I’m not going anywhere on the blog and I have so many ideas for posts this year (and more thanks to your poll responses!). I also enjoy creating short video content, so I will continue to post on IG and start posting on TikTok more often. I’ve fought the platform for so long, but I know people hang out there and I love that it’s less curated than IG.

Finish my IHP Level 2 Certification!

I absolutely love the certification process and am so excited to lead the Big 5 Labs for clients, friends and family (and myself!).

If you are looking to explore your health passions or start a new career, I recommend the IHP program. You can read this post about my experience so far.

Expand the Fit-Team community and start a group coaching program with functional lab tests

I plan to continue building the Fit Team — the community is everything and the workouts are fiiiiiire — and start a group program focused on health fundamentals, along with optional functional lab testing, once I complete IHP2. If you’re curious to get the information first, jump on the waiting list here.

Submit another book proposal

Every time I write a book I ask myself “WHY DID I DO THIS TO MYSELF?” but I have so many ideas for this new concept. I chatted with an editor to find the perfect title and perspective for this one, so we’ll see how it goes.

Take the crew to Europe

We start planning for summer 2023! The kids are PUMPED. A trip to Disneyland Paris is planned, along with Rome and (hopefully!) Madrid.

Finally rip out the damn carpet upstairs

I’m pretty sure I’ve been saying this for two years, but it happens, even when it’s about me and a shredder. I can’t take it anymore lol.

Keep it up with the podcast

I was chatting with a blog friend and she did a little research on my podcast and told me that it’s in the top 0.5% of all podcasts in the world. And then she laughed at me because I’m pretty casual about the whole thing. I post when I have content – I aim to do it weekly, but that doesn’t always happen – I often forget to share it on IG stories, edit it myself, etc. So that was a fun nudge to keep at it and find more potential explore with the podcast. I also lined up my first sponsors for the year!

Keep reading a priority

I’m currently writing the great book synopsis (it’ll be online tomorrow!) but it looks like I’ve read about 24 books this year. It was below my goal of three a month because I had spent some time studying books for IHP. My goal for 2023 is still at least three books a month. I really enjoy reading, so making time to read every day, even if it’s only 15 minutes before I quit, is a good motivator.

Start singing again… or something

Our symphony was in season this year, they invited everyone back into the choir and we had to audition again for our seats. I learned Beethoven’s 9th in German, went in and got my seat back, then realized a few days later that I couldn’t attend for personal reasons. I hope to come back next year because I really miss it but at the same time it’s been so long I can’t help but wonder if this is a sign to do something different. I’m just looking for something to fill my musical/creative cup like singing, piano or dancing so I’m hoping there is some of that in 2023.

Keep working to be a more patient, joyful and loving mother and wife, aka my most important goal

I want the people in my life to know how much I genuinely and unconditionally love them, and while I know that in my heart, it’s important to show them. I remember to be more present and patient and to enjoy the people around me as much as possible. I enjoy our babies so much and being their mom is my favorite thing in the whole world. My goal is for them to feel this as much as possible <3

So tell me friends, are you setting goals for the new year?

What is a professional, personal and health goal for 2023? I LOVE hearing about your goals, so if you’re feeling up to it, please share some in the comments!
