Metal Butterfly (555)

Guerlain Metal Butterfly (555) Ombres G Quad Eyeshadow Palette ($85.00 for 0.2 oz) is a newer eyeshadow quad that includes two more shades with a satin/pearlescent finish and two more metallic shades in a good mix of depth/undertone. Three of the four shades were actually quite good, but the less outstanding one was still very good!

ingredients

Metal Butterfly #1

Metal Butterfly #1 is a rich, deep brown with moderate, warm undertones and a faint golden pearl finish.

  • Semi-opaque coverage, applied wet and dry
  • Moderately dense, firmer but not stiff, no powderiness
  • Blendable, “melted” on the skin for a smoother finish
  • Durable (8.5 hours wear on average)

  • Chanel Quintessence No. 2 (LE, ).
  • LORAC Brown Sugar (LE, $19.00).
  • ColourPop Choc Full (LE, $4.50).
  • Chanel RĂªve d’Orient #1 (LE, ).
  • Managing Director of Melt Cosmetics (LE, ).
  • Urban Decay Factory (PiP, $19.00).
  • Le Metier de Beaute Autumn Rust (LE, $30.00).
  • Anastasia Chocolate (Titan) (P, $12.00).
  • Wet ‘n’ Wild Naked Truth #3 (DC, $2.29).

formula overview

–

The formula is said to contain “intense pigments for long-lasting color” in four finishes: “intense satin,” “deep matte,” “bright metallic,” and “lustrous pearlescent.” but based on the texture and appearance of the pan, it seemed like a wet/dry formula to me, so I tried it wet as well. I didn’t feel the need to use them wet other than a few of the “radiant pearls”. “Finish colors that had more shimmer/sparkle.

The “deep matte” finish tended to feel firmer and creamier, so it was best to use a denser brush to apply and spread the color, while the other finishes were moderately denser – firm but not stiff. – and blended well as they “melted” into my skin. The shadows lasted on me for about eight hours before showing any signs of fading, with some approaching the nine hour wear time.
