The weather may be cooling, but fall hair colors are all about warmth. The Fall Transition is already in full swing – auburn and copper tones have been spotted all over the Emmys red carpet – and blondes are no exception. Warm depth and natural tones make an appearance on some of our favorite golden-haired stars, just in time for pumpkin spice season. The final result? The fall-friendly color with the adorable nickname “Cosy Blonde”.
“Cozy blonde is a toned down version of your summer blonde and a great transition into fall,” says Jennifer Korab, hairstylist and owner of Renaissance Salon & Spa, who coined the name. “This blonde is generally warmer tones and golden blonde,” Korab continues, pointing to the hair of Jennifer Lopez and Hailey Bieber as classic examples of comfortable blondes.

#1 Jennifer Lopez Cozy blonde
“Cosy blonde is a term used to describe a super low-maintenance approach to being blonde,” says Michelle Cleveland, famed hair extensions artist and Wella master color expert. “The look includes more depth in the hair with low light and a strategic placement of lighter blonde tones, allowing for a low-maintenance blonde that works all year round,” she adds, pointing to Ciara’s medium blonde shade as a prime example.

Who is the ideal cuddly blonde contestant? According to Korab, the shade is great for natural blondes, anyone with highlights or balayage, and light brunette hair. However, it also works for anyone who’s currently blonde, whether colored or natural, Cleveland says.
“Anyone feeling a little drained from the general brightness [of their blonde] It usually blends very well into this look,” Cleveland says, and the same goes for those who are tired of making grooming too time-consuming, expensive, or harmful. “In this case, your stylist can create a cozy blonde that gives you the best of both worlds.”

Translation? If you’ve been looking for blonde-friendly fall hair colors, congratulations: your search stops now.
If you’re planning to dye your hair a cozy blonde, here’s what to ask at the salon. “Cosy Blonde has a lot of dimension in her hair. You can achieve the look by adding lowlights and asking for a golden or honey blonde, but you want to keep the face framing light while adding subtle lowlights,” says Korab. Cleveland agrees, and she also notes that you should reiterate that you’re still interested in seeing yourself as a blonde, but would like to make it a little more low-maintenance while you look for softer growth.
#4 Chrissy Teigen’s cozy blonde
Remember, low-maintenance doesn’t mean maintenance-free. “It’s the biggest mistake clients make when they go for a look like this,” says Cleveland. “It’s super low maintenance compared to an all-over blonde, but it still requires some maintenance to keep the color looking fresh.”
To maintain and protect color, be sure to consistently use heat protection and color protection shampoo and conditioner, as well as a moisturizing hair mask and shine. Cleveland suggests NuMe’s Tourmaline Hair Mask for the job, and Korab is a fan of Pureology’s Color Fanatic Top Coat + Tone Hair Gloss in Gold.
As far as styling goes, anything goes with this kind of low-maintenance shade, but Korab thinks the more effortless the better. “I love styling cozy blonde hair with a lived-in look, like a beachy wave,” she says. To get the look, simply let your hair air dry and style with a hair waver and spritz liberally with sea salt spray for the ultimate relaxed look.
