Chocolate Cherry takes brunettes and reds to the next level

Chocolate cherry hair color is at the center of the brunette red hair Venn diagram – the rich overlap is the best of both worlds, adds depth and will make your hair look great, especially as the weather turns colder. This shiny, blotchy color penetrates curls and actually lasts a good three months thanks to a slower oxidation process. We love a low-maintenance look, especially when it means fewer cold-weather salon visits (although you can DIY too). Think of the universally flattering shade of red as dark cherry charcoal or a flavor in a box of chocolate. The color looks delicious in any light, but the burgundy really pops in the sun for a sparkling, dramatic surprise.

According to Clark, the chocolate cherry hair color trend is “a natural-looking brunette with hints of red-purple hues throughout the hair.” The key is to play up the red, as it “adds dimension to the hair,” he continues. For reference: “It looks like a brunette color with a subtle reddish hue throughout the hair. It’s not a bright hair color, it’s more of a whisper in the hair,” explains Clark.

Need a picture? These different hues take up all the space on our mood board.

#1 Even ombre

All-round gloss with slightly lighter ends gives the shade even more depth.

#2 Dip Dye

Exaggerate cherry by increasing the color at the tips.

#3 strip town

Bold stripes are the tech of the hour and paired with this eye-catching trend color you can’t go wrong.

#4 Medium length layers

Play with variations on the color by focusing the red at different lengths. This look is especially flattering for those with medium or shorter layers.

#5 Subtle shadow

Chocolate cherry is just as striking when it’s subtle, so show off this photo if you’re looking for hints of purple and blended dark brunette tones.

#6 cheat sheet

Duplicate this formula for Hollywood starlet Coco Crimson Hair and add subtle waves to really seal the deal.

#7 Brunette Barbie

Luscious fall hair has never had a more apt reference photo. This timeless shade of chocolate cherry is winter meets cult.

#8 Painted color

This version of the chocolate cherry is blended so perfectly it almost looks painted on.

#9 Bold bob

A dramatic color adds depth and makes a bob even bolder.
