After 34 years Cher has decided it’s finally time to put her Malibu mansion on the market and is listing the property, customized to her unique specifications, for 28 times what she originally paid for it.
This week the Wall Street Journal reported that the pop icon listed her massive mansion for $85 million after originally buying the property in 1989 for $2.95 million. She listed the house for $45 million back in 2009, according to Realtor.com. After purchasing the 4-acre lot overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Cher set about building her dream Italian Renaissance-style home. Construction took almost five years and the result was a 13,200 square foot primary residence with arched windows and doors overlooking the ocean. The property also has a separate gatehouse that can be used as a guest house, an infinity pool and a tennis court.
The gated lot is located on the Pacific Coast Highway with a forty palm lined driveway and a courtyard with a Moorish style fountain. The maid’s house contained seven bedrooms, including a master suite with a meditation room and two closets, one of which doubled as a panic room. The primary bathroom is also designed like a hammam with Turkish wooden walls. The lower level of the home also features an indoor-outdoor gym and theater. And according to the 2002 book The Cher scrapbookThe house also includes an air-conditioned wig room where the Grammy winner keeps nearly 100 hairpieces.
